I've got a 92' 150 Flare with a leaking p/s pump. I'm going to change the pump and thought I would change the hoses as well. Checking prices online, I see a standard return hose and a return hose with trailer package. Mine is standard. Could I install the trailer package line or does it really matter? All I really tow is a light weight boat rig. Also, the pump manufacturer suggests installing an in-line filter. Is this a good idea or a waste of time?
An inline filter is an excellent idea. You can pick them up for about $20-$25 from most parts stores. If they don't know what you're talking about when you ask for a PS filter ask them for a tranny filter for the return line, 3/8" inlet and outlet. The tranny filter will work perfectly. It prevents contaminents from getting into the pump which is what burns them out in the first place. In my opinion you don't need to add the trailer package line but if it's the same price it won't hurt either. It's beneficial to keep the fluid cooler although it's never really an issue with stock tires.
