well if you are trying to find out if the 351c is original its not. it was never installed in trucks.

Not so fast, 302C/351C was installed in Australian assembled F-Series trucks up until 1983. This is an international forum so you can't make sweeping generalizations.

Well since you didn't say where you are from, I'll take it from your post that you are an aussie. That said, look on the cast timing cover just above the fuel pump. It may be too grease covered for you to see the VIN stamped into the block but it will be there. If it is a car block it will start with JG or JH. I think truck blocks were JA? Not sure as I have only seen one truck block and I have forgotten what the VIN was.

Once you determine your casting numbers, you may find this link of some use.

If you want the casting no. that starts with a D0/D1/D2/D3 etc.,... then look on the side of the block above the starter. You should see cast upside down the Dxxx xxxxx xx. Mine starts with D1AE xxxxx AB. All this tells you is that it is a 197x block for a particular car line, NOT the specific car.

Casting numbers for the C heads are on the bottom of the intake runner. Thye use the same format as the block casting codes.

It's interesting to me that some people seem to treat these forums as if they're some sort of interactive encyclopedia. They truly expect to post a question, no matter how trivial, and have someone answer that question.

I had seen this post, but like many other similar requests, I declined to help someone so lazy that they can't be bothered to even do a forum search or a web search to find the answer for themselves.

I don't mind a specific question about an arcane or unusual question. I often have such questions myself. But I'm doubtful that someone who can't be bothered to do their own research is going to be much of a mechanic.

But, good luck to you. I hope you get the answers you want.

PC,

I treat this like an interactice encylopdeia and I've learned quite a bit by doing so. I'm sure you have quite a bit of experience and talent. Unfortunately, many others here do not, including me. My understanding is that this is not an "experts only" forum. Consequently, you are going to get questions form beginners such as myself.

Also, what may be trivial to you, may be of some importance to others, like me. The original poster could certainly have chosen his words more carefully on the second post. No arguement from me there, but I suspect it was more out of frustration than anything else.

If this type of question comes up frequently, perhaps it should be included in a FAQ section along with the answer. Just a suggestion.

I've only been following this particluar forum on FTE for about a week and only because that is when I found and purchased the 351 Cleveland I'm going to rebuild and drop in my F1.

The search tool on FTE is less than optimal. Our answer may be on page 11 of the reuslts that get pulled up and we have to read 11 pages of threads before we find the correct answer. Sometimes it's just easier to repost, especially if it's something that you figure most folks would probably know.

Newbies like me have an awful lot to learn from folks like you. Just want you to see where we are coming from with question like this.

Thanks,

Carl

if i offended anyone with my second post i do apologize but you would think after 5 days some one would be kind enough to share something that is apparently NOT common knowledge to everyone. Thank you 73xafalcon, homespun and mr. bill. your info will help me greatly. And thank you Texan2004 for expressing perfectly the exact way i feel trying to hunt down info. in these forums sometimes.
