My current build is on a budget and is for the wifes car. Low end grunt & mileage are the main concern. I have a STOCK 81 302 2bbl with late 80's factory headers, an AOD and 3.27 Traction-loc with 25.5" tires. 3.73's are sitting on the shelf for installation at a later date. I am looking to find a stock 4bbl to put on also.
I have been looking for a cam and wondered with the early 80's heads are the dual patterns better? I can get some 85 heads if these would be much better. What cam specs would you reccomend?

Welcome aboard. If mileage is a concern don't go to the 3.73's. They would do ok for a 29-30 inch tire. For the heads some one here will know more than I do. I bolted up some y303s that I bought cheap. You really need your entire setup ready to go before you pick a cam. You would need a slightly different one for each variable right down to the stall of your torque converter. When you get all the parts together your going to use call comp cam and they will reccomend the right cam to work with your set-up.
A dual pattern camshaft is needed for most all ford heads. The 302 is no exception. I don't think the e5ae head is much better tha the d8oe so i wouldn't worry about that. I got to look up the cam specs, that doubletime on holidays.
