Post Stock cam specs

I was wondering what the stock cam specs were on a 1978 351W. I'm looking into cams and wanted to know how much better it is than stock.

The data I have says it produced 260 degrees seat-seat duration and 0.416" lift at the valve with the stock 1.6 rockers.

Looking for little aggressive idle but don't wont to go to an extreme camshaft. Or an aggressive idle but still is in the mild camshaft range.

if you want info, call Comp Cams and talk to them. Most of what they do is done via a conversation. Even if you don't buy from them, you can learn a lot and get what you need.

The right cam will depend upon just about everything about the vehicle the motor is in and how you use it, so maybe share that info.

well OK then...I called them a while back and said I have a 351W with a blower, am building that motor for around 500 hp for a street/strip application. Here is what I got:

  • Intake Lobe DUR: 232/.565 lift
  • Exhaust Lobe DUR: 244/.560 lift
  • Lobe Sep.: 114
  • Advance: 4

Wow that's a lot of cam for a street vehicle, it won't idle worth a dam and will needs lots of gears because it's gonna be a screamer.

Because of the restrictive stock heads cams with higher lift and a dual lobe profile produce more power with these motors, so my pick will go to the XE series since the others just leave too much on the table.
