Perform this adjustment in an open area free from steel structures and
high voltage lines:
For optimum calibration, turn off all electrical accessories (heater/air
conditioning, wipers, etc.) and make sure all vehicle doors are shut.
1. Start the vehicle.
2. Locate compass sensor mounted at base of mirror.
3. Press the button on the top of the compass module until ZONE appears in the instrument cluster display. Continue to hold down until ZONE disappears and CAL is displayed (approximately eight seconds) and release.
4. Drive the vehicle slowly (less than 5 km/h [3 mph]) in circles until CAL indicator turns off (4–5 complete circles).
5. The compass is now calibrated.

You don't have anything new near the module on the mirror that's metallic do you? Anything that could interfere with the magnetic field? Other than that, the only thing I can think of would be that the module has gone bad.
Don't feel bad, my 2002 XLT is stuck going NW. Sooner or later I'm gonna be in Alaska. I've tried everything. The dealer can demagnetize the vehicle but I don't think that will help. Mine went whacky when I tried to change the zone.
The compass display on my 2004 F250 quit working correctly so I contacted a repair site and was told that the overhead display only shows what the compass sensor is sending so the problem and it probably is the compass sensor module. I have read that on some models the sensor is behind the rear view mirror but it is not on my truck. Does anyone know where the sensor is located on the 2004 and how to replace it?
