I am looking into ordering a F350 Crew Cab Short box SRW 4x4 with the 4.30 LS. My plan is to install a 6" lift and 37's. Would the 4.30 gears be enough? I do not haul or pull anything other than my quad, but still want usable power.
Would the lower RPM give better mpg? Not that I am going to squable over 1-2 mpg. Would the 4.30's be really that bad for everyday driving? I would love not to have to regear.
I think you may actually return WORSE mileage with the 4.30s and 37s. (Just my opinion)
I can see you using the gas MORE to get up to speed. Sure you'll get better mileage on the highway due to the 300 less RPMs you'll be turning versus stock BUT the slighest incline or desire to speed up will drop you into 3rd (even 2nd) so I cannot see any real mileage benefits.
Maybe you should consider smaller tires? I know, that's a tough one because these trucks look real purty with 6" of lift and 37s.
Just look at this Excursion with 18's and 37's.
Maybe drop him a note asking how his PSD (w/3.73s) handles the 37s.
I agree these trucks look soooooo good with 6" and 37's. I like the 35's and 4", but the 35 MT's at 4 Wheel parts are more than the 37's!!! Thank you for your help.
I have 3.73s and 35s and plenty of power. I would think 37s and 4.30 would be similar if not better than my situation. I have not pulled more than 4000 lbs. If I did, I would change something. I barely lost any mileage. Just got 13.9 on a litle run averaging 72-75. Verry happy.
i think it would be ok...look at the numbers with stock tires and 3.73's at 60 in od...depending on what you do with the truck...if your going to be towing/hauling alot, i would regear to at least 4.88's
