Hello All,
One of the guys at work has a F450 Motorhome with the V-10. He says he uses 5w 20 year round in the engine. Says thats what the book calls for and it also says it on the oil filler cap or tube. Is that right? It sounds kinda light to me.
Someone over in the FE forum (352/360/390/427/428's) is doing oil analyses on his brand-new motor after it was broken in.
He's tried a few different brands of 5w20's, and guess what? Even an old motor built for 10w40 or thicker has LESS metal in the oil and less viscosity break-down with 5w20 than 10w40/20w50 (I don't remember what he tried first).
However, I still can't make the jump to 5w20, I still use 5w30. My motor in particular was the year of change over to 5w20 (manufactured 10/2000) and there is no difference in the motor itself, so I figure I'd stick with what was spec'd before the "CAFE/emissions" thing. Unless there's really some ultrustic high-up in Ford (besides Bill), it's all about money. So I kinda look at the switch to 5w20 with some reservations.
yep ford wants 5w20 motorcraft semi blend in them. i also use 5w30 in mine and will for a while, as i was able to get 36-6 bottle cases of castrol syntec at a very very good price. just before i retired for good from dealership work. so that should last me about 30 changes, my dealer told me no problem as he stocks both for people who don't trust the thin stuff.
I'll put my 2 cents in on the Christmas tree guy ! I hope it doesn't take as long as it did for you to change your plugs!!!!!! x-mas will be over !He He He
Happy Holidays ! Happy Holidays!
I run 5w30 all year long have been for yrs and yrs.
No problemo!!!!!!
