6.2L with 4.30s

I ordered a 2014 F350 SRW and it should be in sometime in October. Has anyone ever owned or have driven a SuperDuty with a 6.2L with 4.30 gears? If so how does it act at highway speeds. Im mainly going to use my truck for towing and hauling hence the 4.30 gears.

There are some owners, they will chime in soon. I have not driven one but rode in couple and they are a good ride with plenty of power.

What color and options did you choose?

I have one and I love it. I have not towed much with it but I am loaded down with a few thousand pounds everyday. I have had the truck for just over a year and have over 120,000 problem free miles.

You will enjoy your new ride. Post up some pics when you get it!

Wow, would you mind sharing how you run 120k miles in a year? Hot shot type runs maybe?

Not at all, I am in the oil and gas industry. I service the rigs that are running around south texas. I was recently located out of San Antonio and drove from San Antonio to near Laredo (Webb and Dimmit Counties) would drive around servicing different operators and then drive home every day. Now I am in the Houston area and do the same thing here. I average 10,000 miles a month, a lot of them being offroad, hence the sig pic.

Yeah, I figured it must be something like that. My folks lived in Laredo for about 10 years, and I've made the drive between there and SA many times, even up to Victoria and back from down there. That's a LOT of seat time you've got. I'm glad you got a truck you can enjoy driving that much!

Not to sidetrack, but your experience would be appreciated in regards to something: that's a lot of miles on your 6.2L. Have you driven a 6.7L? If you had to do it all over again, would you do it the same way? Thoughts?

I actually have driven the 6.7L and it is a beauty. I was in a rental truck for two months while waiting to receive mine and drove plenty of miles on it. Enterprise truck rental was not happy with me!

On average I was getting 16-17 mpg loaded with the 6.7 and as of right now I am getting roughly 12 mpg with the 6.2. For me the high cost of the diesel upfront was the deterrent as well as the cost to maintain the 6.7L. (Mind you, I get an oil change every two weeks, as I have already driven 5000 miles by then and I fall under the severe duty maintenance schedule).

Also, fuel stations are few and far between for me and I cannot guarantee the quality of fuel. I was initially worried about poor diesel quality and potentially being stranded due to fuel problems. Based off of my experience, I believe that the 6.2 is a more forgiving motor (for poor fuel quality).

Now if I was not driving in the middle of no-where (in the desert), and was strictly a highway driver, I would have the diesel without a doubt. Don't get me wrong, I love both motors, but the 6.2 seemed to suit my needs better at the time.

Either way you go, both motors are great and the key is to find which one suits you better!

Now guys, please do not turn this into a gas vs. diesel thread (we already have plenty)!

OP: Sorry for the thread hi-jack!

I'm goin' on almost 3 years with mine, still absolutely love it. I don't have alot of miles on mine but it pulls pretty good. Do a search in this forum for "Ohio meet", a few of us get together every year or so and drag a 15k+ lb trailer up a hill (10-20% grade) wide open. Lots of cool data/videos of how all the various SD's performed.

How much are you towing and how often?

Vermillion Red, XL, Reg Cab, Manual 4x4, Running Boards, Tailgate Step, Factory Spray in Bed Liner, Gooseneck Hitch, Upfitter Switches, Brake Controller, Manual crank windows and Non Powered Locks, 4.30 gears, 6.2L Gas, Heavy Duty Suspension and alternator. I choose an XL for the vinyl seats and the carpet delete vinyl floor. Unfortunally you cant get an XM radio or a rear sliding window with an XL.

Mine is a 4.3 but it's also my first truck so not sure what I can tell you. It seems to drive just fine at highway speeds.

No, nothing like that. Just curious to get some feedback from someone who's actually put some legitimate miles on both. Thanks for the info

Not a problem. I have definitely put my fair share of miles on both!

Thank you for sharing your usage , It is a perfect example of why not one size fits all in the truck world...
