I replaced the shift collar on my 76 F250 automatic and now it will not engage the shift arm in the engine bay, what did I so wrong? Any suggestions?
Steve
My first thought is that is that the collar is not engaging the shift tube properly. The collar slides over the tube and the tube , in turn, engages the shift arm.
Is the arm that sticks out the bottom of the steering column moving when you move the shifter or is that the problem?
There should be a slot or keyway in the little shift arm that lines up with a hump or key on the shaft. When you put the outer column tube on, you have to line up the key and keyway.
Is the new collar shaft the same length as the old one?
