Ghost Wipers
I have a 99 Mazda B3000. Every once in a while the wipers will come on and make a swipe or two. Doesn't seem to be any pattern to what makes it do it. Does anybody have an idea of what is causing this. Afraid that one of these days it will do it at the wrong time and either scratch the windshield or screw up the wiper motor if the blades are frozen in place.

There was a recall on the Multifunction Switch that was causing similar problems, you're '99 Ranger might be covered:

Thanks for the reply. I will go to Mazda and see what they say. Mine doesn't have power windows so according to the recall it wouldn't be covered anyway though. Maybe if I am lucky they will work with me on it. Maybe I be able to get a free switch at least.

Went to the dealer today and they checked and said that my Mazda wasn't under the recall. They checked the TSB's and found that the multifunction switch was changed. They wanted $170. parts and labor to fix it or $70. for the parts. Is there a better place than the dealer to buy the switch or other things to check before buying it? Would the Ford Ranger switch be the same? Open to any ideas that anybody might have.
