Does any one know what D81 stands for on the body style. Thanks still haveing a hard time with the style of my bed, not sure if it is right. I don't think ford sent a bed out of the factory with blocks of wood betwen the bed and the frame.
81 refers to the closed cab, regular pickup style truck.
The D should be a B, and would indicate non-custom cab trim.
Yes, the bed came out of the factory with wooden blocks. I think they were there to prevent overcompressing the bed corrugations, but I do not know for sure.
The "D" is your interior trim code. You don't have the year of your truck listed, so I can't tell you exactly what it is. The "81" is conventional cab. The early 4x4 trucks (61-64?) had the beds that don't match the cab. These were the 57-60 slab side beds. List your year and the serial number and what's on the second line of the data plate that's on the door or hinge pillar and we can decipher it for you. It gives you trans, ext. paint code, wheel base DSO, etc.. on it.
thanks 66 , spending a lot of time makeing sure its the right bed before working on it.
Been to the end of the internet looking a every 64-66 4X4 made ( a few with that bed
) but i have seen a lot of short wheel base 4x4 with the newer style bed. I will post a few pic soon.
Thanks for the compliment, but I got it right from the 64-72 Ford truck parts books. It's a great resorce for info and part numbers. If you need any other info, just post. I'll try to help if I can.
