VIN Decode for body Style E81
Thanks for the info. I checked my DSO and it is 72. The truck was a Dealer Special Order (DSO), and it was shipped to the San Jose, CA district. The truck was also manufactured in San Jose.
I also have the original operator's manual. The truck was purchased on July 21, 1966, by an individual in Klamath Falls, Oregon. It was purchased from Jim Busch Ford Sales in Ashland, OR. Ashland is just north of the CA border, but that's a long ways from San Jose.
A friend of mine bought this truck in Klamath and then sold it immediately to me, so it's entire life has most likely been in Klamath Falls OR. Cool.
I still don't know what the E81 stands for, but I'm learning more about my truck.

Your VIN Code of E-81 breaks out like this: E is the color and/or trim code; I don't have my book handy at the moment to be more precise. 81 refers to the conventional cab. Conventional here doesn't refer to standard vice custom, it means it wasn't a cab-over or a cabless truck.

The "book" I am referring to is the dealer's set of parts and information books. I bought the set on E-bay a couple of years ago for $100, and haven't regretted it. They have saved me more money than I can remember.
The other set that can be of help is the dealer or factory shop manuals. They also come up for sale on e-Bay every now and then, but be prepared to pay well, because there are a lot of folks realizing that the '60s trucks are going to be the next surge of restoring fever, like the '50s trucks were a decade and a half or so ago. So things like the books, documentation, and NOS parts are getting harder and harder to find.

I see that this is an old posting, but I just googled my fathers old car dealership and this posting came up.
My Dad - Jim Busch had the Ford Dealership in Ashland from just after the war to 1985. He probably sold the 66 F100 to the guy in Klamath Falls. We didn't keep any of the records - so no help with any new information. Sorry.

Yup.
I "picked" up some mighty fine information out of them books.
Gotta "pick" yer way through all them there pages to get any thing worth "pickin'."
Good "pickin's" though, if you've got a mind to "pick out" the gems from rest of it.
(Still figgering out a way to include "banjo" in this one, but just cain't seem to do it yet. Shucks, I'll sit a spell and think some more.)

Well, JC, you cain't say you're not grinnin' while I'm a-pickin'!
Been pickin' my brains. Still caint mix banjos with pickin' and Ford trucks.
I can mix Ford trucks and pickin' - after all they're "pick"-up trucks, right??
Still working on the banjo part.
(Hey, don't they call the rear chunk in a Ford rear a banjo??!!)
Got it!
Banjos, and pickin', and Ford trucks - a winning combination!
