We got our first freeze yesterday started my truck (86 150 4x4 351w) ran for 30 sec. and died, turndover slow sounded bad got out and heard water leaking. Looks like the coolint was pouring out by the flywheel. Checked my lower radiator hose froze solid. Had a block heater pluged in but like a fool I never tested my antifreeze level BAD. Hopefully it should be 40 today maybe my hose will thaw any suggestions would be helpfull Hope I did.nt crack the block. Sadly to say I had a bronco 84 302 the water pump went out filled with water little to no antifreez and temp drop to 28 leaked in the sme place got towed before I could fix it. I can't lose my truck, could this be a core plug? If so how hard to fix can't afford a mech. Please help. Thanks
looks like you probably need another engine.theres probably freeze plugs in the bellhousing, but they r not there to keep the block from breaking, they are core holes to get sand out of the mold when they cast the engine block. u say u had a block heater on the engine? i saw a 305 firebird that froze one time, it blew out the side of the block near the front cylinders on both sides.it was brutal, you just cant contain ice. if u r a good welder, u might b able to weld the crack if u take out the transmission and can get to it and it isnt too bad. muggyweld.com sells rods that can weld cast iron. there website shows em repairing a hole in a cat block when it threw a rod.
Bad deal. Once it thaws, the damage will show itself even more (as the coolant runs out).
Let us know what you find. As oldford said, you might be able to patch things together. Ice has no mercy, it can break or shatter nearly anything that is not protected from it.
Thanks, Found a freeze plug in the ice under my truck. Had to pull the starter to replace it. Put some water in to make it to the auto parts shop to get some antifreeze. Seems to run great that scars me and sure enough put some antifreeze in temp droped to about 195 then shot up. Any idea where the plugs located on the drivers side towards the front of the block thers one close to the bellhousing it looks ok. Found the plug on the ground. I hope this is all that wrong. Could of happend before I put the antifreeze in at least my drive shou'nt freeze. This time I think I'll inspeacked all plugs. Is there any more than theses 3 and is there any other things i should look for? P.S. this site has been great for info thanks all!
Also, while I'm here two othere things. Theres two nipals on my raditor but they no hoses I assume one for reser. 351w carbed their no vacum line.
