I just bought a 1999 Ford F150 and the heater doesnt work. The air will blow you out of the cab, but when you turn the heat on it doesnt get hot. Someone told me it could be the "flapper" but when you look in the glove compartment you can see the flapper changing form cold to heat. I was then told it could be the "shut off valve"? Can someone tell me where that is or if anyone has any other ideas about what it could be. I'm trying not to have to take it to a shop and have someone charge me out the wazoo for nothing.
When the engine is hot, check both side of the heater hoses to the heater core running to the firewall. Along one of the heater hoses you'll find the shut off valve for the coolant system for your heater. Both heater hoses by touching, should be about the same temperature, when you have the heater on and the engine running. Caution, Watch out for the fan with the engine running. You can also check if the valve is opening and closing by switching for cool to hot and checking if the valve is moving.
