I have a 1996 Ford F-350 crew cab new engine about 30000 miles ago it's a sd truck not mass it got hot about 2 maybe 3 weeks ago not melt down hot but hot it took 2-1/2 gals of coolint when it got hot it lost like 50hp it feels like a 302 not like my other big blocks I keep getting a code lean ego not switching so this is what's new new o2 new water temp air temperature sensor new plugs wires new distributor with cap an rotor new fuel pressure regulator new fuel filter change the map from my other truck an the ignition modular new intake gaskets check for vacuum leaks I'm not losing antifreeze or bubbling in the radiator I have the base timing at 10* with it running it jumps up to 28* to 30* back an forth at idle ?? I'm lost I love the truck it's just no power fall on her face some one help plz

 

First of all, welcome to FTE. Secondly, to help facilitate a quick response and to make it easier for the rest of us to read your posts, can you please use proper punctuation marks in your posts. I had to re-read your post about 4 times to understand what you were saying.

With that all being said, these trucks were known to be lean from the factory. I myself have a 1996 F350 crew cab, dually with the 460 but it is a MAF system. No, I'm not willing to sell it...well...maybe. I also get a lean code from time to time. Your timing shouldn't really jump any unless you play with the throttle. If the motor is running smooth it should stay put. If it's running a little rough, it will move a little. I would leave the base timing set at 10 degrees for now. Did you replace the distributor? Was it set back in correctly and not 180 degrees off? Also, when you changed the ignition module did you replace it with a black one or gray one?

Regarding the coolant. I would pressure test the coolant system. You can rent a pressure tester from Advance Auto or CARQUEST. They're simple to use. It attaches to where the radiator cap goes and you pump up the pressure just like using a hand pump for a ball. If you have any external leaks you will see it immediately. If it's an internal leak the gauge will leak down with no external coolant leaked.

Sorry you had to read it 4 times?? But yes it's a new distributor like I have stated an no it's not 180 off it ran fine till it got hot then I put all these new parts on an the coolint will hold 25 psi so I know it's not that. It never ran lean before all my fords run a lil rich there sd trucks bank injection not mass air I never had this code before till it got hot now it runs that lean with your foot all but to the floor it won't go over 55 if I bump fuel presher up to 50 psi with a adjustable fuel presher regulator it don't run as bad so something is telling it to cut fuel

 

My ignition module is black just like the old one on the truck
