Hmm... I'll have to check when I get home, but I was pretty sure the software for my RangeLAN 802.11b PCcard for my laptop allowed me to specify what channel to use. Could be wrong though.
i live in a house next to the other house my neighbor has a rang extendor and thats the problem i' ve asked them to secure there network and all they did was change the password to the router (i have the same crappy router that verizon sent)and they don't know how to really secure ther network because that router is too complicated thats why i never used it and i have my router set to channle 11 with wep 64bit securitys
Security isn't the issue.. interference is... Linksys makes 7dbi and 15dbi antennas for around $20.... that will give you more signal and you should be able to keep your link.
I have to tell you a funny story.
My BIL is a cop, and while he is single pc literate, he has a heck of a time with the "whole networking concept". My brother went over there to set up his wireless network (Dlink) and typed in an address and went to the router, he logged into the Linksys router, and set up wap and all the stuff (including the addresses it already had given ip's to) and then noticed his mistake. He had logged onto another police officers, unsecured network. He then set up my bil network, and a few days later, 3 of the 4 detected networks on that block, had been secured. While I don't recommend it, if you set up thier security to wap, and they had to redue it, they might be more inclined to do so in the future.
good idea any way to crack the password on ther westell routers
-----> JUST KIDDING<------
ive tried to use the default user and password info for those routers none of the that worked but i might have to change my routers address because that where the interfearance is coming from all 4 routers are all in the same IP address 192.168.1.1(default on all routers sold)
i changed the routers ip address the wep keys moved it closer to my grandmothers computer and its still refusing to connect to the router and when my laptop is in the same room with her computer it also refuses to stay connect to the router i'm dumbfounded it seem that the office is a black hole for my router but every where else in the house is ok now it will only connect to the unsecured networks my grandmothers computer that is my laptop cant seem to find the unsecured connections in the office but it finds my network and refuse's to connect
all channels have the same output power. Interference on the other channels is usually the culprit. If you have a cordless phone in that room then it can cause problems.
