i have a secured wireless b network in my home and sevrale of my neighbors have the same but theres is not secured i running on channel 11 the other 3 are on channle 6 they all have westell B/G routers and i have a linksys 4port wifi B version 4 router and im getting alot of interfeirece right now when im in the back room on my laptop what should i do im getting bombared with this and my laptop is disconecting from my network and connecting to there then when the single dies im stuck stranded without a connection because it can't find my router i would have to up 3 flights of stares and unplug the router then plug it back in to reset it
You have the best router. I've been using a Linksys for 3 years. Are you getting decent signal strength since you are 3 stories below the router? Are you running XP with SP2?
right now i get a good signal when im under it and right now running xp sp2 but when i go in to the back room im drowed out by my neighbors crappy routers and my grand mothers won't connect to mine because hers is in the office where the signal is at 25% and the other routers are at36% and up even if i forced it it will not get a clear signal
This is a problem that I haven't had. The only thing I can suggest is to look at a Range Expander. You can find them on the linksys website. I would talk with someone from Linksys. They have excellent customer service by telephone.

What usually happens with XP is you have more than 1 network in your Prefered Networks section.. WHen this happens XP will go with whichever signal is strongest.. Make sure only your router is in the prefered section.. Also there are many topics in the Microsoft Knwledge base covering this..
That is why I don't recomend Wireless (To Flakey).. For no hassle networking run a cable... They are more reliable.. I have wired many customers who tried wireless and were fed up..
i've got the laptop set to only use my router but theres too much interfearince when im on in the kitchen, back room, office, or my sisters room all on the right side of the house when on the left side theres not that much interfearince i think my right side neighbor has more than one router running in there house ive tried to change my setting to get a better signel nothing and this has only started today well any way i can get a free ride off there internet since its not protected
i've got both wired and wireless the wireless is for my laptop and my grand mothers computer her comp is in an unwired part of the house (the troubled aera)
What about asking your Neighbors to secure their wireless networks? It would be to their benefit to not share all their top secret files with the whole apartment building. While your asking see about resetting the channels of their router so they dont conflict with yours? If they balk show then how you can see all the shared folders on their comps.
There are plenty of ways to expand your range & eliminate the problem. Get an antenna or a repeater that will improve the signal in that room. Circuit City & Best Buy probably have them on the shelf, since wireless has become so popular.
If you look around on ebay or other online placed you can usually find a better deal on the range expander than going to Best Buy or Cirtuit City. They generally charge way too much for those items.
