You have the best router. I've been using a Linksys for 3 years. Are you getting decent signal strength since you are 3 stories below the router? Are you running XP with SP2?

This is a problem that I haven't had. The only thing I can suggest is to look at a Range Expander. You can find them on the linksys website. I would talk with someone from Linksys. They have excellent customer service by telephone.

What usually happens with XP is you have more than 1 network in your Prefered Networks section.. WHen this happens XP will go with whichever signal is strongest.. Make sure only your router is in the prefered section.. Also there are many topics in the Microsoft Knwledge base covering this..

That is why I don't recomend Wireless (To Flakey).. For no hassle networking run a cable... They are more reliable.. I have wired many customers who tried wireless and were fed up..

i've got the laptop set to only use my router but theres too much interfearince when im on in the kitchen, back room, office, or my sisters room all on the right side of the house when on the left side theres not that much interfearince i think my right side neighbor has more than one router running in there house ive tried to change my setting to get a better signel nothing and this has only started today well any way i can get a free ride off there internet since its not protected

i've got both wired and wireless the wireless is for my laptop and my grand mothers computer her comp is in an unwired part of the house (the troubled aera)

What about asking your Neighbors to secure their wireless networks? It would be to their benefit to not share all their top secret files with the whole apartment building. While your asking see about resetting the channels of their router so they dont conflict with yours? If they balk show then how you can see all the shared folders on their comps.

You could take and cut the power lines heading into their houses. lol

I think that would take care of the problem.

There are plenty of ways to expand your range & eliminate the problem. Get an antenna or a repeater that will improve the signal in that room. Circuit City & Best Buy probably have them on the shelf, since wireless has become so popular.

If you look around on ebay or other online placed you can usually find a better deal on the range expander than going to Best Buy or Cirtuit City. They generally charge way too much for those items.

I could be mistaken, but can't you just set your computer to use only channel 11? or what ever it is you're using?

Nope, you can't tell the computer to use one channel.

But you may be able to set what channel to use on your router. At least I can with my Netgear.
