Can anyone tell me how to, or point me to a thread for disabling the chime when the key is in the ignition and the door is open. It's very annoying hearing the ding-ding-ding.
I want this info for a 2005 F-150.
It is a differnet procedure for the F-150 than it is for F-250. (I think)
Thanks .......... John

Here you go hondaguy. I did this to my 04 f-150 and I screwed it up by breaking the wire of the female plug. The chime is gone, but if I ever want it back in case I sell the truck, I will have to solder it back on, which is a pain. I should have just cut the wire. Good Luck.
Remove the lower dash cover underneath the steering wheel. You will find a brown plug with 3-4 wires in it, one of which is black w/pink stripe. Cut the black/pink wire. This is the signal wire from the ignition switch that tells the chime when the key is in.
If you would rather not cut the wire, unplug the plug and on the female side, there is a red retainer that you can pop out with a small screwdriver. This will allow you to remove the proper wire/connector. Then pop the red retainer back into the plug and plug it back in. Tape the loose connector up because if it touches ground the chime will come on.
One other note, if you do this, the chime will be gone but you will now have the unfortunate opportunity to lock the keys in the ignition because the feature that prevents this will also be disabled. Better have a back-up plan if that happens.
Thanks guys. I figured it out. On the 05, you have to remove the black/pink stripe wire from the ignition switch plug which is the same area. It's not in a plug with 3/4 wires as mentioned above.
It's in a 7 wire plug for the ignition switch.
Your right, it does disable the key in the igniton door unlock feature.
