I have some argent steel wheels that I would like to have black. Problem is all the black wheels I have found are not the right size or offset. So that leaves me to paint the stockers which would be inexpensive and would probably look that way too. Recently the option of rhino lining or line-Xing them was brought to my attention.
How do you guys think that would work and look?
Would the tires need to come off for application? Would it be more trouble than its worth?
What do you guys think about scratching and maintanence touchup?
I'd be worried about the heat... wheels tend to get hot, especially if you tow heavy loads or drive in a "spirited" manner (like me) and get the brakes nice and warm. I bet the LineX would melt off...
While I do have Line-X on a good portion of my truck, I'd never consider having it sprayed on my wheels. Besides adding a good bit of weight to the rim, it'd make balancing the wheel & tire very difficult- assuming you could even get wheel weights to stay attached to the rim.
I think getting a consistent thickness in the application and balancing them would be the biggest problem.
I would just scuff them up good, get a good quality black paint (gloss or flat, whatever) and take your time and paint them up.
EDIT: Dude, are you doing this to the wheels on your HD? Eeeeeeh, I'd reconsider doing any of that to those wheels, those are pretty sharp looking. If anything, I would tape off the wheel and paint the openings or vice versa. That would give a decent contrast to them.
Kinda like this.
