Okay i have searched and really haven't found anything but is there a way to put on a hi steer on my 76 Hi-boy i have the ram assist but would like to get that and the steering arm above the leaf springs and pumpkin.
i really can't imagine using the factory ram assist in a highsteer setup. i dont see how it would be possible. you would have to convert to real power steering and go from there i would think. but, im no expert.

i highly recommend NOT putting both steering arms above the springs! the ford knuckles just wont take the stress since they are thinner than the other makes. just do a high steer arm from pitman arm to pass side knuckle and then a DOM drag link on top of the stock position for the drag link.
do you mean you have hydro assist that you built or bought a kit for? or do you run a stock power assist setup?
It is an original ram assist there is one steering arm right in front of the axle. It has on the driver side the Intragal gear power steering to turn left or right. I like it cause it is simple operation.
yea you'll prolly have to ditch the power assist setup. prolly a good thing too b/c i have heard a lot of bad things about them leaking and causing problems. go out and build you a real hydro assist setup... get the 1.5" ram and it should steer and drive just like it does now but you can put it where you want and it will be very reliable!
I second that. Man, if it doesn't take 5 minutes for one to leak out all of the fluid or turn from "power assist" to "armstrong power steering" after 20 minutes, take it off and keep it as a relic. '
The main issue I have with Ford's lovely power assist setup is that stupid control valve in the draglink. If it doesn't leak, great. If it works like it's supposed to, great. But typically they add a bit of slop to the steering system. When combined with larger tires that you have to fight while driving down the road...watch out.
I've got three 1/2 ton setups and two 3/4 ton setups taken off and stored. In their place went power steering boxes. No more sloppy, non-working assist.
cody, i second you on the slop part. i went to a manual drag link and ditched the power assist. this is just until i get up the cash for the conversion. i'd rather be doin it manual versus having assist but risking running over some 18yr old garden ho in the honda civic.
So apparently i like to do things the hard way. I decided to beef up my 72 so that i could tow heavy s#!+ With it. I added disc brakes in the rear hp d60 78-79 in front. Then thought i should put a hydrobooster power steering and hi steer on. Ill get to the point i have a 78-79 4x4 box mounted hi steer all mounted flat pitman and frame clearanced, but when i turn right the wheels go left. It was a manual steering gear before. Am i going nuts or what?
