ive got a new 5.0 crate engine with a holley 600 and aod tranny.when i get on the gas hard the engine makes knock or ping like sound. or if im in like third gear and give alot of gas the same.could it be air fuel mixture float bowl level or fuel pressure. any input is appreciated. thanks
That is what my truck is also doing, so i put in 93 octane it worked than i put in 87 and it is back and seems like it is doing it even more than before. I have a 92 f150 w/302. WHY???
I'm with Kemicalburns. Try timing, carb then an intake leak. I found a nice trick for intake leaks. Use brakecleaner to spray the bolts., If you have a leak it will make the exhaust smoke.
92flare, check your timing. it should be set at 10*btdc with spout connector removed. it is very important to have the rig at running temp. once you have set timing and checked it. reconnect spout and start it . then turn off and unplug battery for 15mins. then reconnect and drive for 30-45mins. do some city/hwy driving at various speeds this helps the ecu relearn. also if you are due for a tune up by some seafoam and run that thru before changing your plugs out. once this has been done scan for codes
As for the brake clean trick, I always used carb cleaner. If it sucks it in it will change enging speed. You just have to be sure that all your air intake system is on and it's not just picking up the fumes through the air filter.
