Balancing issue...
Building a 331 out of my 302, bought a kit that requires a 28/28 imbalance, dampener and flexplate. Not too tough, except for one thing.
I've got an E4OD.
The dampener is easy, I can buy one new if I have to, but the flexplate, ahh the flexplate. Where to find? There are days I wish I had a AOD or C6....but alas.
I know 351's kept the 28 oz imbalance, and plenty of those came with E4ODs, but will that flexplate bolt up to my 302/331 crank and work with the stock starter location etc.
Or, can an older 302/C6 flexplate do the trick? (This question is based on a couple of other threads that I've read, as well as some possibly misleading info elsewhere on the 'net.)
My understanding is that an incorrect flexplate will displace the torque converter into the transmission, tearing it all to heck, starting with the pump. I don't want this.
Lets stop there and see where this goes.
Bring it on.

Get your flexplate rebalanced. Not always easy to find a shop to do it.
The 351 flex plate should work. It will definately bolt up. I'm not sure on the tooth count. You could bring your's with you for comparing it. They should be the same size, holes, and tooth count with a smaller weight.
I can get my flexplate rebalanced, but I'd like to leave that as a last resort. My truck is still running and I'm building a second motor, so I'd prefer to have ALL of the stock equipment available for installation if need be...
