I have a bum body mount at the right rad support corner. WAs going to change it out next week, then got to thinking. The others, including the cab mounts dont look bad, but would I be better off changing the whole works rather than just one?. The truck (79 150 heavy duty spring) rides rough enough as it is. Over twenty Canadian years on the thing. Any advice would be appreciated. Any big problems changing the cab mounts out?
Fairly simple & straitforward.Rusty bolts will be biggest problem.Torch sets fire to the old bushings;I use a Sawzall with metal blade to cut bolts that wouldn't come loose.Easiest to change all on one side at a time, use floor jack/wood block to raise cab.Brian
Thanks. Do I assume that all the mounts for cab and rad support have to be loosened off before wedging in a piece of wood to keep the space open? I am still wondering if after twenty some years that I would be best to change them all out at once.
I have not done this yet, but in discussing it with a friend with whole lots more experience with me, replacing less than all is not the way to go. The old ones are weak/collapsed. Mixing new with old most likely will result in the cab not sitting level on the frame and mis-alignment with the style lines of the bed. Also, he got a big improvement in ride quality - a few old ones mixed in will lessen ride improvement.
Blaine,
If you're holding onto the truck for a while then it's best to do all the mounts at once, odds are the rest are in near as bad a shape as the one you wanted to replace. I used "Energy Suspension" mounts a few years ago when I did mine and I'm very pleased (also the top pick for radius arm bushings and the "C" bushings). I live in the rust belt also and it was a pain in the @## getting some of them free. You can still get the washer/nut assembly from your Ford dealer and invest in new bolts. The results are well worth the small cost. Good luck.
I'm in the process of replacing my cab right now. I'm getting all new hardware for the mounts from LMC trucking. They are a lot cheeper then ford, and ford does not carry all the hardware anymore.

When I priced the parts from Ford compared to ordering from the US it was cheaper at the dealer. I guess your location makes the difference. I remember that I was suprised the washer nut assembly was available, sometimes a discontinued item can be found at another dealership if the parts person is helpful.

I am going to check with UAP napa because they will give me garage price. I am fed up with the dealer, because 79 and back are on microfilm and they always call the old crusty guy over to check and lots of wailing and gnashing of teeth ensues. But I think the early 80s series used the same stuff so good chance Ford would have them.If I cant get them local, I will go to LMC. They dont give the whole set away but at least they have them.
I think I will go for the whole thing. I was thinking of Energy Suspension in which case I will have to get the hardware separately you are saying?
Would appreciate hearing of how your job goes. I will probably be 3-4 weeks before getting at it here. Still too cold and wet.
