Best Big Block
I've already got the body picked out 77 long bed F150.
My question
I've had good experiences from the FE series big blocks I want to know what y'all think is the best big block
Either a 390 or a late 60's 429 / Early 460 with an RV cam and Dual exhaust.
I have a 70 429, I have no problem pulling or pushing anything .

if it does it might be worth it just to stick with it.
i know they are not highly regarded..and cubic inch rules and well i have even had my share of trash talkin about them but they can be a good engine if you put a little money into it with headers, cam, intake and 4bbl and little higher compression pistons.
the price you'll probably have to pay for a 429 (thats good on top of that)is rediculous and you can sink that money into your engine and have a good powerplant.
if you can get a good running 460 at a decent price then i'd go for it..but if you can only find engines for rebuild then i'd sink the money into what you got...no monkeying around with mounts or anything.
as for the FE..well i love them and i think they're great but its just that much more work and expense if you dont have the parts already.
Its up to you....how much work and money do you want to spend?
Just my opinion but thats just me.

If you've got a 400M keep it and work on it. Use Cleveland pistons to get the compression ratio you need. Modify factory heads to personel requirements. Use cleveland cam. I think a roller cam is available, maybe?
NOTE: A high performance cam will die in the bottom end when towing.
If you can find a 428CJ use that.
The 429 would do better than a 460 for drag racing.
The 390 next.
What kind of tranny are you thinking about? This could turn the tide.
I think an auto 3 speed with the overdrive (venture?) Stall converter should have lockout if your going to tow.
