1985 ?????????

HI you experenced guys out there use your talk lile C-6 trans other important imfo and i would like to know what i am working with.

I have a 1985 f 250 with the deisel 6.9L

the transmision is a 4 speed that i am told is a burg warner I would love some more imfo?

It is a 4x4 with i think 3.54 geas and i was wondering if thery are ford or dana diffs and how i can tell?

i have paked the front wheel bearings and i think they are ford hubs?

Is this one of the more heavy duty f 250s in 1985?

Finaly i would love to give that old 6.9l some more horse power what is the best way to do it.

There may be a label on the drivers side door opening (at least on my 81 F150) that has some codes, such as for transmision and axle codes.

It's a Truck Safety Compliance Certification Label.

A Ford dealer should be able to tell you what trans and axles you have.

Maybe you could post the codes and someone with an 85 Ford truck manual could tell you what they are.

Your transmission should be a Borg Warner T19, 1st gear should be syncronised, and the transmission should have PTO takeoff ports on both sides.
As for your differentials, your front is a Dana, either a D44 HD, or a D50, depending on how the truck was ordered. If it's an extended cab, it SHOULD have a 50, a regular cab will have a 44HD unless it was ordered with either the max front GAWR or snow plow prep package.
The rear will most likley be a Ford/Sterling 10.25", but, could be a Dana axle, easy way to tell, a Dana has the fill plug in the rear cover, while on the Sterling, it's in the casting on the side of the pinion housing.
Being a Diesel or 460 truck automaticly makes it a F250 HD(over 8500 GVWR) A regular cab should have an 8600 GVWR, and an extended cab 8800.
Post up the axle code, and the front axle GAWR, and I can better tell you what you have.

As for more power out of the 6.9, I have one word for you, Turbo. You can turn up the pump, etc, but, the best bang for your buck is a turbo system. Take a wander over to the 6.9/7.3L Pre Powerstroke Diesel forum here.
