1969 Thunder-jet
Hello I am a new member here. I have a question I would like to ask. I work at a garage in Ky and have a customer needing a engine for their 1979 f150 4wd. It has a 351m w/auto trans in it at the time. I have 1969 Thunderbird with a 429 engine, I priced it to them for $500.00 They don't care about the price for the engine but don't want to spend alot for parts needed to swap engines. I was needing to know what is ness. to change engines. Will it be worth it? Or should I put the engine in my '72 F100?Just scroll down through this forum.
It might take 2-3 pages but all the info is there for sure.

The 4BBl being 360 HP
It can get anywhere between 8-14 MPG fuel economy.
I know many people even here that would buy it...
It's entirely up to you.
I did my swap, which included price of a complete engine included for $600.00 Canadian.
I went from a 400 to 429 >
The motor mounts I got from the wreckers for $12.00.
Brand new Torque convertor $75.00
A lot of the parts from the 400 swapped right over.

79 f150 4x's came with a 460 stock, and used the same trans bhousin as the 351m
im asuming youll need the alt. bracket power steering pump bracket, ps hoses, radiator and hoses, rear sump oil pan, and engine mounts from a 77-79? f150 4x4 that had a 460 (to save on headachs and do it right) but these things can all be rigged, other parts will work, my alt bracket is outa a 80's fairmont
these are the things i needed. your swap will be a little different
so hopefully somone will correct me if im wrong.
the thing that sucks about these motors is they got like 10:1 compression and require more octane than premium gas has, they do suck gas and haul *ss tho
id keep it for the 72, if you dont mind spendin extra fueloline, youll love it

That's why there are so many Kits and articles on this procedure.
Because they weren't available
Maybe take some time and read this article.

Well as far as gas mileage goes, my 351w doesn't even get 10 mpg in these mountains. I quit driving for this reason. I wouldn't mind the mpg because my truck will barely hit 80 mph right now. I know it would run and tow alot better than the windsor thats in it. I missed up when i rebuilt it by putting 289 heads on it. It just runs out of breath before the rpms get up. As far as reliabilty it would last longer than most newer engines. I believe that i'll keep the 429 who knows i might find a mustang to shoehorn it down in.
