This is the welting I used in front fenders of my '49. I bought it from a Ford reproduction parts dealer. It doesn't stick out past the fenders like the beaded type. I used the beaded type on my back fenders:

Just a tip that I used when installing the welting. I painted the mating surfaces of my fenders, then loosely bolted them together and slipped the welting in between the fender parts. I notched the welting pieces so I could slip them in and then tightened the bolts:

After I tightened all the bolts I painted the fenders. I don't like handling painted parts anymore than I have to. I edge paint every part I can, bolt them together and then paint the rest of the part while on the truck. It eliminates having to touch up scratches that occur during assembly.

Fender to Cowl gasket

The rubber that goes on the rear of the front fenders, between the fender and the cab, was originally held on with staples.
How are you fellows attaching it?
Can you install it before painting? It looks to me like it will have to installed after painting the fenders and the cab.

Thanks for the info. I'm no where close to final assembly, I've go tons of body work to do before I really need to worry hard about it.

Thanks again

I'm just using a thin bead of black silicone on it, with some masking tape to hold it in place til it sets. My fenders are fiberglass so there's no stapling. I think it's best to install after paint, because of the foam rubber the last time this truck was painted if the rubber wasn't masked off perfect the paint stuck to the foam permanently. Or you could paint over it I guess.

rubber fender strip

Thanks for your reply. I have been thinking about drilling small holes where the staples used to be and using a push in clip that has a long narrow head on it. I can drill the holes before I paint, then install it after paint.
