We'll the plan for this tank will be to take it easy on the pedel. That seems to be the concensus. We'll see how I make out. It will be difficult since I love to hear that turbo wind up. Is there a RPM range I should stay around or under? Is 2K a good target. No matter what I love the truck.

My 05's MPG Lie-O-Meter is consistently 1mpg off from hand calculations.

Here's an interesting link that helps explain some of the differences that we seem to see on FTE regarding fuel mileage. It's a paper about big rigs, but has lots of info that is pertinent light duty diesels as well (this came off the general diesel discussion page):

http://www.streamload.com/nlemerise/Ford/MPG_Secrets_Wh..._Whitepaper.pdf

biggest thing about fuel mileage is that driver efficiencies can make a 30% difference in fuel usage. Also, that for each 1mph over 55 decreases fuel economy by 0.1 mpg. While that is for a big rig, it somewhat applies to our trucks as well. I know that the difference for me between running 60-65 vs. 75+ is probably 2mpg (20.5 vs. 18.5).

Another interesting point - they found no mpg difference between synthetic and regular oils.

The link didn't work for me, but I was able to correct it and find the doc. The link I used is:

I know that there is a thread for the SuperChip Max Tuner. But it's also 179 pages long. So real quick has anyone found that this tuner has helped with MPG running in economy mode?

This weekend, I'm going out to Arizona, I will fill up and hand calculate, Hopefully it will be close like Mwachel said.

my HP mode operated better than the econ mode when not towing. The result was .2-.5 mpg improvement.

Well from what I'm seeing here I am in the range of what others are getting then...Oh well. I was hoping for more but you get want you get I guess. BTW drive like an old lady has seemed to make the MPH worse. I haven't calulated it yet but the needle is dropping much faster then the last tank.

I also stop by the dealer yesterday. I have a recall on something to do with the injectors. The tech mentioned that it was just a program change. Maybe that will help. But it's most likely just wishful thinking.

Bad MPG and high fuel cost were the reasons I sold my SD and bought an F150. I never saw better than 15MPG by hand calculation and was seeing 13 to 13.5 in the winter. With diesel at a 0.70+ per gallon preimum I could no longer take it. I am seeing 14 with my f150 and it only has 500 miles. Mostly city driving.

I used to see 17+ with a Dodge Cummins, I took it hard for a year with my 6.0 but am glad it is gone.

Never seen mileage that bad on my truck on the highway. City mileage can be down in the 12 range with my short trips (4 miles each way) to work up and down a 450' hill.

But get it out around town on regular city driving and it jumps up to 14.5 to 15.5 or so. On the highway it's always been over 17 MPG even when brand new. And no one has ever accused me of driving like a granny either

No MPG Change After Recall

As promised, I am reporting after having finished my third tankful, with Stanadyne with each fill up, after the latest emissions recall (EGR, Connector, EBP Sensor). I was getting 15 mpg before and still get 15 mpg now. But,now I am driving with an imaginery egg shell between my foot and the accelerator and trying to hold it down to 2000 rpms. So, I guess you could say my mileage has dropped? However, the truck does seem to run better, with less turbo lag and it is louder. I would love to calculate my mpg on a flat and level straightaway between fill ups, but that is not real world driving here in the Northern North Carolina Piedmont.

I hand calculated mine at 13.5 to 14.2.

This is an E350 dually utility body work truck at 10,000pds. 4:10 rear ratio and a mix of city and highway. Talk about the proverbial brick going down the highway
