Question Block heater plug location

I just spoke with a friend of mine a couple of days ago. He is a new owner of a 2005 F-350 PSD DRW Lariat. His first truck ever and has lots of questions. He was asking me when is it necessary to plug in the block heater? He said that his manual says only when it gets to 10* below zero. I said I dissagreed and I plug mine in anytime it gets below freezing. I turn my defroster to on before I shut off the engine the night before so that the vaccume opens to help keep the cab warm. Plus it starts right up on those cold mornings. Well he went to plug in yesterday and could not find the plug. I too looked and saw nothing. Anyone know where it is on the 2005, or is it now an option and not standard equipment? On my 01 it's located in the drivers side front bumper next to the fog lamp.

I think I've seen someone here say the newer trucks Ford moved it to the right side. Same place as mine and yours were on the '01s, but the right side...hope it's there...don't know anymore, sorry. Can you find it at the oil filter housing or where ever it goes into the block?

I've heard that depending where you are, some of the warmer places its an option now. May be the case with the 2005. Cost cutting or some dumb reason.
As for when, I've been plugging mine in as well when it gets below freezing. I don't have problems with it starting below freezing, I like the way it starts easier when plugged in and the heater warms up alot quicker.

On the 2005 trucks the block heater is an extra. I think it is about $40.00 for the part. I don't think they are to hard to install. To bad you didn't know as these are the things I make them throw in on the deal, like floor mats. I plug mine in if the temp is going to be below 30 degrees and I use a heavy duty timer set for three hours before I have to leave. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I too now think the block heater must be an option. It is to bad that the dealer did not inform him of this. Guess he will have to add an aftermarket one now. Live and learn. Thanks again everyone.

It is an option on the new trucks. If you want a cool mod you need to relocate the plug in the bumper using a Marinco plug. It sure makes hooking up a lot easier.

I am not sure how the heaters are installed on a diesel but I had a 94 Bronco (gas engine) it had a block heater. It was in a freeze plug hole in the left side of the engine with the heater element going into the water jacket of the block. So from the outside it looked just like a freeze plug with a cord going to it.

My 99 F-350 does not have one either. I guess it was an option called Cold Weather Delete then and eliminated the AIH, EBPV, and the Block heater. According to the window sticker it saved the original owner all of $150. I personally would like to have the EBPV and use it as an engine brake, but its not there.

Chris is correct. Here are the states with the cord:

2005 Block Heater Option:
All 2005 F-Series and Excursions with the 6.0 PowerStroke have a block heater installed on the engine. However, the cord for the block heater must be ordered as an option (code 41H). The cord is installed on vehicles originally sold in the following states: Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, North and South Dakota, and Wyoming. Broadcast Message 1512, 3090.

rvfiver, I use my engine block heater when it gets below about 36 degrees. Smoother engine start up plus, my vents are blowing nice warm air by the time I get out of my alley.
BTW Chris, I put my Marinco outlet in the same place. Passenger side. Just last weekend actually.

KW,

Was a bit nerve racking to drill a 1 7/8" hole in the truck, but I figered worst case, I could get a new black plastic piece.

It does draw 9.4A according to my meter so thats about right for a 1KW heater. Now I need to get a heavy duty outdoor timer to put it on. Only need to run it 3-4 hours before starting.

I just finished installing (plug in and tighten) the International cord with the 90 degree end on my 05 PSD. If anyone is interested, the part number is ZBL3600008 .
BTW, The cord was only $17.50

Rick,

Thats funny. The Thermo Zerostart cord aftermarket was 3600008. Hum... Wonder if Thermo makes the OEM version too.

I ordered my Marinco outlet from Overton's. Got same day shipping.

If you have a well stocked boating supply store in your area they may have one on the shelf.

Good luck.
