I need a pressure switch for my on board air system. Most of the switches I'm seeing are 110 volt. Will they still work with a 12 volt system? I assume it's an on/off with some kind of contacts?
Sweet! Thanks for the info. 12 volt junk is pricey, I believe because so many people use them in low riders and other junk with airbags. 110 volt switches with the pressures I need are $5.
yep i am using one off a cheap air compressor from harbor freight. it works good i am using it with a york pump. very smooth system turns on at 95 and goes back up to 125 in about 15 seconds. works great.
Switches are dumb. They will switch just about any voltage as long as it is less than the resistance between the contacts when they are open. You would have to have more than 600v to exceed that.
Yes, Pressure switches don't useually care about voltage (so long as it is not higher than it's rating), but current is current. The rated current (amps) of the switches' contacts should not be exceeded.
If all you're switching is a compressor clutch, you should be OK.
If you are switching a larger DC compressor motor, watch out. A lot of these motors draw a lot more than a cheepo switch can deal with. (think pitted contacts, or worse yet, welded contacts - on!)
Was just looking at the Oassis compressors, and they can draw upto 150A@ 90PSI.

I think the clutch on a York only draws 5-10 amps, so a cheapo switch should be fine. That's the route I plan on for my OBA on the 72, seems to work for most people.
For those Oasis compressors, use a solenoid, and the switch to control that.
