No offense was intended in what I stated previously. Bad thing about communicating via the internet is that noone can tell how something is expressed as you can in person. I was merely stating just a few of the many obstacles you would have to overcome in trying to convert a Ranger to a hybrid vehicle using existing parts from Ford that are used in the Escape and to let you know that I wasn't blowing smoke because I have been trained and certified on all Ford vehicles as I was a Ford Master Certified salesman at a KC metro dealership that sold over 120 vehicles monthly. I hope that the next time there will be no misunderstanding of my post. :-)
I believe your harsh paraphrasing of Level2's post last sentence is not warranted. He made a very informative, knowledgeable statement directly on subject followed by a sentence that outlined the source of his knowledge. If you choose to read some slight into the way he said it, that's OK, but I can see no reason to take offense or to go to attack mode.
Dono
sorry for the delay in getting back to ya' ll i been too busy right now.
with 87oct i was getting 11/22 and worse with a dirty airfilter from day one of owner ship, city/highway and on 93oct im getting 22/44 city/highway(shell v-power at every fill-up) been doing that since i was in the pizza delivery buisness and i did keep track of my milage
and after reveing all the feedback i'm going to keep my ranger the way it is because it would be just to much hassle with emmisions and the state, and the price. thanks for all the info
44...check your math. There isn't a way you could POSSIBLY get 44mpg in a Ranger, even with the 2.3L at a perfect cruising speed and gear. And it's a conclusion around here that 91/93 octane does nothing for your engine, it's designed for regular 87 octane.
44 is like small 4banger car mileage on a GREAT day. 20mpg in town is awefully high, you do know your gas gauge isn't right don't you? In relation to the actual gas tank the values are different on the gauge.
well i got a 20 gallon tank and the (gauge) is set in in quarters so it just estamated and V-power all i used before the price hike a month back now im back to regular and v-power has cleaners in the gas so i don't have to add a bottle every other fill-up it might be cheaper but i forget to add that bottle
yeah i recomend just getting a first gen 2.3 diesel. you can find then reall y cheep and replacement fenders and all the rust stuff are not only in the junk yard but lmc still makes parts for it. Some things to keep in mind is that if you do go bio you would be best to go and get a set up to make your own. i know a few people that not only use it for the truck but heating. The last time i asked he was getting 35 cents a gallon to make it. But he has close contacts with al the mexican resturants around town that love to give him the used oil for free instead of having to pay someone to remove it and despose of it. Also make sure you replace all your rubber hoses(apparently this is the reason that they havnt moved to main stream since they corrode rubber tubes and seals) but they are easly replace with sergical tubing. Either way its a good move a nice truck, good relations withyour local toco joint, and most of all 35 cents a gallon feul i mean god it hasn't been tha low since the 60's!!
Hang with gas would be my suggestion. With the prices comin' back down (who woulda thought 2.10 would be "down"?), it's bearable, even if you do want to run the extra octane.
well you can always run mothballs or add the octane additive to raise it up a octane level. justs its sad when you think back and remmeber when it was so cheep but i am trying to convince my dad to transfer his truck to bio. it just alot of set up time.
