You are correct. FE stands for Ford Engine and NOTHING else. NOT Ford Edsel or Ford Engineering. In 1958 the FE series big-block was introduced as the 332 ci V8 and ended in 1976.

Not a stupid question but maybe rhetorical because nobody really knows for sure, no mater how long this thread gets. Don’t believe everything you read, research it.
I dont think one is anymore right than any other. as long as you all know what you are talkin about use the intitals . You can think about it in your mind as anything you want it to be, maybe Flying Eagles, or perhaps Mary Lou May for the M but just use the M and everyone will be happy.
Unless that is you use M for Mistake, that would make some people a little irate
