Well, I installed a 2.5L from a 2001 ranger into my 1998. (first time doing an engine replacement!) Started up right away but soon dies, can only keep it running by giving it gas, the check engine light is on and the only code retreived was P0102, I unplugged and reconnected the wires to the MAF sensor, no luck. Hard to believe the sensor went bad while I was cussing out nuts and bolts during an engine install!
Any suggestions on what I could do to find and correct this problem?
PS I did install new spark plugs & wires, I tried another used ignition coil pack but no difference.
no I already checked about getting the sensor from the doner ranger. interesting about the tps sensor I will check it out when I clean the maf sensor. I read another ranger user used electronic spray cleaner to clean it. Then again another dude had to replace the sensor to correct his problem.
Not sure if checking volatage at the red wire is valid with the engine in the on position only, wont idle for me long enough to check voltage
If the key is on, you should get 12V at the red wire. It doesn't matter if the engine is running or not. The red wire is common power for things such as the MAF, the fuel injectors, the IAC, etc.
I picked up some electrical contact cleaner from Kragen, said it leaves no residual. It did the trick!!! engine runs smooth, cleared dtc and did not reoccur. Now on to checking engine cooling before doing a road test.
