dash cluster

i have a 1969 F-100 ranger. i have the orignial dash cluster that looks to be plastic

I pulled one out of what is known to be a 1968 F-100 ranger. the outside is some kind of metal that i have polished up.

can anyone tell if this is aluminum our steal ?

Thanks

i want to paint it and if it is aluminum some of it i am going to leave it polished and if it is steal so that it doesnt rust i am going to paint that also

The standard cab instrument cluster's bezel is steel. Check out my gallery, I used the steel bezel and built a custom instrment cluster with autometer guages. If the one in the 68 has round guages its probably one out of a F600 which is steel also.

i hope that this link works, 71100 the pic that you have with round gauges and the square gauges frame in the back ground. i have the square and rectangle gauges like the original gauges that came in the f-100s back then.

This might be a plain dash cluster. I am trying to find out about the steel. I have a if stripped down and polished up some. but if it is aluminum i am going to buff it to have a nice shine. but now that i think that it is steel i am going to paint it up really nice

Hmmmmm, One would think that a truck that required a 10,000 rpm tach couldn't use a 100 mph speedo very long without twisting it in to several pieces.

thats cool. that sure is alot of RPM for such low oil pres.

I am going to do something like that to me dash. But i am going to keep the original guages all in the same cluster. I am thinking that this is steel also i put some water on the section of the bare metal and let it sit. I looks as if it is starting to rust

so i am going to prime it and paint it.

Thanks
