I Thought I Would Ask Here.....
I have read quite a few "Too many problems with the 6.0" statements from the guys here when I was doing research on the 6.8. I do not remember seeing any of the "problems in print however. I have told a couple of buddies that their seems to be some probs with it but would like to pass on just what they are/have been.
What are the current/past problems with the 6.0 diesel?
Scott

There is a much better class of people here at FTE, so we don't beat down the unfortunate diesel owners so info is a little skimpy at times.
The soot in diesel exhaust coats the valve and plugs it up. Many people are choosing to unplug their EGR valves and Diesel Stop and other Forums have countless threads on this.
It is illegal to tamper with pollution control devices, that's all I am saying on this as well as expressing my opinion that I believe it is a crying shame when you have to start tampering with a new engine to make it reliable.
I also had a soloniod fail in the high tech variable vane Turbo. This thing costs more than most crate gas engines and yet mine after 12000 miles was showing wear, according to the Ford Tech who worked on it. He put in a request to replace the entire Turbo. Ford turned it down and did the minimum fix hoping the thing would live until it was off warranty and let me pay that whopper of a bill out of my own pocket.
I had the poor mileage, the rough romp romp idle, the coolant puking issue , the oil leak from the faulty bed plate casting on the two piece block, etc.
I see in 07 the new Twin Turbos will not have variable vanes so apparently I am not the only one that doesn't like it.
On diesel stop everyone doing UOA ( used oil analysis ) showed that this engine shears oil down very quickly and that turns a 40 wt oil down to a 30 wt or less.
In other words this 14 qt - expensive oil filter engine should have its oil changed more often than many gas engines recomend.
I have touched on the more common things that are making 6.0 owners dump them and I have missed many other concerns but don't want to annoy the 6.0 owners any more than I already have. Take care, Wrench.
Here it is from my perspective
I/we ( our company) bought 2 6.0L PSDs.
I have owned 7.3L and V10 series Superduty trucks.
One the gas diesel price went upside down.... booo for the oil burner
Two the 6.0L never got the 19 MPG average..... more like 16 empty and 12-14 heavy
Three we had 28 days down time in first 7 months....re-flash, CPS, Injectors
Because of three............... we must not cheat on scheduled mainetnance
Hint..... lots of folks service a truck maybe once a year and get away with it
The 6.8L and 7.3L will accept that abuse ..........the 6.0L will punuish you if you try it
