Can I install the 3 v heads on a y2k v10 without too much trouble ? my thinking is that if I blow out a plug I can upggrade both heads to the new 3v. has anyone done this before or even thought of it?? Thanks..
There is a lot of work involved with that swap. They have a differnet oil routing than the 2v's, and the variable cam timing requires a new computer among many other things. I can give you a run down if you want. I know this because I know some people who are trying it with the v8's.
The heads were not the real advance of the 99 to 01 change, and 3vV0 heads are NOT the panecea for the 2005 andup 3v V10.
Along with 3v V10 heads came an extensive rework of the ENTIRE intake and exhaust systems! Now you need a variable volume plenum ( intake butterfly in the manigfold) then add in a 5R110 trany and entirely new PCM, ABS and Fuel injector controll plus a totaly redesigned fuel and vapor managemet system and I think you will have an idea that the extra 50 Hp and torque were not simple bolt on adaptations...
Yes you can easily add the 3 v heads to a 99 or 00 PI setup... but you won't gain any more then if you bought a $250 cold air filter and a $400 chip.. so why bother?
