9.75 lockers?

I'm looking for a decent locker to put in the *** end of my 01 f150. I am looking for something like the lock right or the ez locker. All I can find is the Detroit. Which is a little out of my budget, and I really don't need something that HD since it's not a hardcore offroader.
I see all kinds of lockers for the 8.8 but not the 9.75.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Since I'm at it. I'm looking for a good limited slip for the front.

What kind of LS do you guys prefer clutch type or gear type. I was looking at the detroit true trac. I want a limited slip that has a lot of grip to it. Not exactly the right wording, but you know what I mean.

Any opinions?

NOOOO, not for a newer 1/2 ton truck. those trucks aren't nearly as strong as the older styles and wont take the stresses of a full on spool, in fact i'd be worried about any locker up front on those things, but thats just me!

um...thatd be a bad idea....your front cv shafts turn all the time, therfore you would hardly be able to turn on pavement with a spool up front

yeah, no spool or even a locker up front for that matter. I'm thinking just a true track up front, I may just leave the stock ls in the back until they come up with a lunchbox locker for it. Maybe if I feel rich I'll go for an electric, but them aren't cheap.

I don't even think you can go with a spool up front and still be able to unlock the 4wd, and don't these truck use a vaccum unit that works with the front diff to unlock/lock the front diff?

newer vehicles + offroading = lots of money with more than enough breakage to go around!

not worth it in my book but if you can afford it then by all means, do it!

I won't be doing a whole lot of offroading with it. About the only thing it gets used for is going out to the fishhouse, even if that means I have to bust through 6 foot snow drifts. And the occasional mudhole. Even the mudhole is very rare. I dont' like to get my baby dirty. lol I just like having every last bit of traction that I can squeeze out of it.

It also gets used for dragging my friends out of the lake, don't asK. Don't forget dragging my 50,000 ton boat out of the river. There isn't a landing. And pulling people out of ditches in the winter time.

I am bringing it in to the shop in about a month to have 4.56's put in it. My 3.55's with 34's just isn't cutting it. I figured I might as well add the traction doodads now.

Think I should just put a LS in the front and call it good?

thanks guys.

Oh yeah, anybody have any experiences with Motive gear Ring and pinions?

I was looking at the detroit electracs. I couldnt' find one for the 9.75 I'm not sure if they have one for the 8.8 front yet.

What does everybody think of going with an electrac in the front and leaving the stock ls in the back until tractech comes up with one for the 9.75?

If they have one for it, selectable is always a good idea up front. You can still use 4WD on the road if you need it, without the the bad steering habits of a locker running. And you can lock it up tight if you need too. The Electrac is an LS unit though and on a CV truck it's still gonna make steering a little tight.

Leave the LS out back until youy get the funds to do what you want to it. The front will get you more bang than the back one will if the the LS is working okay right now.

Thanks BFR.

According to the tractech website they don't make the electric unit for the front.

I did however find that you can get an Eaton E-locker for the front. So I'm probably gonna go with that. If I read right the Eaton unit is an open diff when not locked, unlike the electrac which is LS like you said.

So I think the E-locker will be perfect. Just an open diff for normal driving, and when I need the traction flip the switch.

Has anybody heard anything bad about the Eaton?

I'd probably stick to a detroit in the rear. an electrac is more $$ than a detroit. especially if you are snatching heavy things from the rear.

A friend installed the Eaton in the front of his 99 fx4, did the LS in the rear.
He loves the Eaton, flip the switch and instant traction.
