Coolant Tube on Intake Manifold Broken
Coolant Tube on Intake Manifold Broken
I have a 1999 F150 with the 4.2L V6.
There is a steel tube that comes off the top of the water pump which splits into a "Y". A hose fits on the right side (looking from the front) of the "Y" The other end of this hose fits over a steel tube which goes into the intake manifold. This tube is broken near the base and is leaking coolant. This tube is "fitted" into the intake manifold.
Can this tube be replaced? Or am I going to have to buy a replacement intake manifold?

OOPS! Called another dealer. They've got it -- part # 8555 $13.
Thanks, Smaug -- if it hadn't been for your reply, I probably would've taken the first dealers word for it.

That sounds like the same thing that comes on stock intakes on the 5.0 mustangs. Everyone that I know just caps them off. The coolant goes through the intake just to warm it up faster. If thats what it is bypass it on both sides of the intake

I've been out of town and still haven't fixed this. I got the above answer on another website.
Is this right? Would I do just as well to bypass this passage through the intake manifold?

Also, I notice the coolant temperature sending unit is on the intake manifold. If I bypass this passage, will it bypass the sending unit and prevent my coolant temperature gauge from working?
BTW I live in Houston,TX, but I was near your stomping grounds last week, BrianA. I was working in Decatur, AL and visited family in Jasper, AL.

I decide to go ahead and remove the intake plenum so that I can replace this tube.
But now I can't get the upper intake plenum off. Help! See thread below:
