coolant crossover tube leaking
Hi,
First, Hello... first time on here, hope to be here for a long time.
Ok..... I have a 2000 Expy with 5.4. I am leaking coolant from the passenger side of the coolant crossover tube that sits in front of the intake manifold. I thought I could simply remove it and replace what ever gasket or O ring was there, but I cant get the darn part off!! Does anyone have any experience with this part?
It sits right in front of the intake manifold and almost looks like there is a part of the same intake manifold that is sandwiched between this damn tube and the block. The driver side of this coolant crossover tube holds the thermostat and the thermostat housing bolts directly to this tube.
Please anyone help???
Thanks
Randolph C

I had the same problem. the tub that your talking about is right behind the alternator right?
If so I'm pretty sure its the intake manifold. on my 2000 5.4 it was leaking from the passenger side.
take off the crossover tube and check the groove were the gasket sits to see if it chipped.
If it is broken you need a new intake I bought one from a junk yard for $125. Good luck and post your result.

I don't really know what i the cause of this, it might just be that hot water and plastic is not really a good idea on cars.
I'm currently working in a police vehicle's mechanic shop we work on f-150 and crown vic's almost every vehicle has had the air intake replaced and the damage is always in the same place(the chipped groove).

I see
Hey Carlos,
Tell me....How are the heads on those cars, are they in good condition? I read somewhere that when the heads start to go bad they leak exhaust gasses into the cooling system and that bursts that particular seal... I dunno
Maybe, I ran it too hard... she has 180,000 miles on her, but she has a lot of torque and she gets going... so I tend to use that torque too much I guess I guess it would make sence considering you work on patrol cars and they are always being run hard.
Thanks for your help carlos, I really appreciate your input.
