T98 or T18 with the nice deep 6.69 : 1 granny first, or the T19 with the less granny 4.5~ :1 first are bullit proof boxes. Because of their popularity with the Jeep crowd, adaptor plates are made for just about everything.
I'm doing a swap from a 3 speed to a T98 right now in a 66 F100, but the motor is a 352, so the mounting issues are diffrent.
Best sorce for them is Ebay, next best is a junk yard.
If you don't want truck gears, a T5 from an 80's erra Mustang is suppose to be pretty stout, and ment to bolt up to a 302. they also used T5s in many other cars and trucks. its just not nearly as heavy duty as a T98, T18, or T19
