Anyone?? I might be looking at moving to an 05 or 06 (05 has some extra money off it...so thats why I am interested). Even the smallest problems, I would appreciate knowing about. Thanks
I purchased an FX4 Screw in August. I only have about 4K miles on it and it stutters pretty bad from a dead stop, its even worse when accelerating with the wheel turned. Not off to a good start especially since my 04' was bought back. I hope the rear end problem is not a sign of worse to come, after 30 years of owning Fords this may be my last, a real shame because I really like the truck (when its not at the dealer)
I've got an '05 Supercrew 4x4 XLT that I love. No problems whatsoever. Has 2000 miles on it, 1300 of which were from a fishing trip to Canada. Love my F150!
Minor niggles at 4700 miles. I don't think any of the problems i've noticed are Screw specific, nor would it stop me from recommending it. Only thing you should know, is that that stated MPG on the window sticker are off, due to the weight difference over the reg. cab long bed I believe they based the mileage on. She does not feel too light when getting it moving around town.
I have an 05 FX4 Sprcrew with 5500 miles. Bought in July. Excellent truck now that it is somewhat broken in. The differential drove me nuts for the first 3500 miles - it would jerk hard when accelerating from a stop or when downshifting. I discussed with the dealer and they told me to be patient. Now it is very smooth. No other problems with the truck in any regard except the passenger front door does not kick open when the inside door handle is pulled. Overall, love the truck. Big gas hog, however. I did talk to the dealer last night about the fact that I do not feel like the truck "gets up a goes". They said to wait until 7500 miles. No reason to doubt them at this point.
you have no idea how happy i am to read about your differential breaking in. Mine is doing this now, at 4700 miles, does it the worst at 20-30 mph when kicking down into 1st gear. Gas is an issue, but mine does move fairly well when stomped on. The gas mileage has improved somewhat as more miles go on the odometer. But the kicker is, you CANNOT beat this thing for moving people and cargo. It's downright cavernous in the back seat.
i have an 05 scab i've had a lash ajuster replaced, pcm reflashed, and all 4 of my window motors replaced cause they roll down but not back up, and my back sliding window replaced caused it leaked, 3 tires changed cause of vibrations which cured it. now that being said i love this truck. my wife has an 04 scab and the only wrench that has been turned on it was to change the oil 5/8 i believe. according to our dealers service department my 05 is the only one that they had to work on but they have had numerious 04's and yes 06's. which ever route you go good luck
Nice to know that you've only had one "lemon", thats one too many in my opinion, and you really have no idea what I went through with my 04' before Ford bought it back. Also, did I say those were the only two problematic trucks that Ford has ever sold me? I did not. You are making assumptions about my situation and you are wrong. I make my living with my truck and the 04' cost me dearly in lost productivity. Its not unreasonable to expect a $30,000 to work, and if I can't depend on Ford I will look elsewhere, I have no choice.
I have 7000 miles on my '05 screw Lariat purchased in August. I have to say, so far, so good. I really haven't experienced any specific problems. driveability is getting better, but still balks at upshifts and on initial go. I did have a vibration at 62 mph, again at 70 mph. I put on some 20" TorgueThrust ST and new tires, and it's smooth as a baby's butt. Mileage is good 13 to 18.
One thing-the ash tray/coin bin door rattles.
well mine is an '05 i have had it since may, every once in a great while when i am backing up and turning it stumbles. and when i first start it up it idles kinda fast, then it goes 2 normal. other than that it is great!! i do have another ?? is it worth it 2 put a after cat exhaust system on it? or is it just as good with only changeing the muffler?
Nope! i would like to make a suggestion though. go buy a chevy, i mean clearly you are one of those pore souls that just cant drive a ford simple as that. i cant drive a chevy. somthing will tearup and leave me stranded w/ out a phone and miles away from one.you made a dang good point $30,000 should work the way it was designed to. so should $1.00. why put yourself thru all this get your self something that makes you your living. i too make my living with my truck i'd be lost w/ out it so i understand what your going thru. As for me and my house hold will drive fords lol.......

You're gonna get different sound qualities. Aftermarkets are usually tuned to a certain pitch, some louder, some mellower, and use mandrell bent tubing to reduce air resistance. Also, aftermarkets are designed specifically for you application, with a somewhat easier install. Just replacing a muffler would work if you just wanted sound change, but the shop doing the bending should be a custom, performance exhaust place, and may charge a bit for custom bending any pipes that would need it.
The cat-backs work best with an air intake and a tuner "chip" to maximize the increased airflow into and out of the engine. I myself plan on installing a Borla single-pipe, side exit system in the spring.
