My parents used to hve a problem with kids smashing the mail boxes with a baseball bat, they had learned before driving over htem was not a good idea (on guy even made an "anchor" buried the bottom of it so when they ran it over it pivoted, and the end went into the oil pan) so dad bought the biggest mail box he could find, and a piece of 6" or 8" sewer pipe (don't remember which now) set the sewer pipe upright into the mail box (mail box upright at this time) then filled it with concrete around the pipe. took 4 guys to hoist it onto the 10 ft steel pipe post that was buried in the ground in concrete. Well some kids went by smashing mail boxes about 35mph and wam hit that sucker the bat bounced back took out the rear window, and it broke the kids arm the parents came up calling the cops, and threatening to sue at which time dad mentioned to the cop that damaging a mailbox was a federal felony offense so the cop looked at the kid, and dad saying "so you admit to smashing all of these mailboxes, and before you answer that remember that it's a felony to smash a mail box) funny thing is kid didn't know a thing about who smashed all those mail boxes. BTW it they do sue you that is not considered boobytrapping, and if you call the postmaster they will show up in court, and the minute the person states that they had smashed the mailbox they get arrested. if I remember correctly the offese carries a $10,000 fine, and upto 5 yrs in prison FOR EACH OFFENSE/MAILBOX.
Those people ruin it for all pumpkin smashers The unwritten rule of pumpkin smashers is to smash it in the road. Only real pumpkins! And only in the road!
wow that sucks..i dont know why some kids gotta be so stupid..i swear if i saw someone throw a pumpkin or anything through my mustang window or my truck i would beat the living hell out of them..i wouldnt even call the cops, id just kick thier ***..and then mybe call the cops and report a body layin in my driveway..lol..i saw some nice new silver BMW sprayed painted black...when will people learn thats not kewl..that stuff is just plain inconsiderate
Err, I was that kid smashing pumpkins and hucking stuff at cars on Halloween - 30 years ago. I even got away with hitting a cop car with a tomato one Halloween - amazing how fast one can run through sagebrush when flashing red/blue lights come on unexpectedly.
i may have smashed a pumpkin, and i always broke them on the road. One time i did take a bunch of those rolling trash cans and set them up onto a big barbed wire topped chainlink fence, man, was that funny looking!

It's not the pumpkins we have to worry about, it's our mailbox. They got it again, every halloween.
Someone drove over our mailbox a couple of weeks ago. So I built what I call a Maine Snowplow-Proof Mailbox. I set the post in a hedge on the front of the property. (If the vandals want to drive through my hedge to hit the post so be it. It'll scratch the snot out of their paint ) Then I got 3 hinges and rigged up a boom arm that would swing back and forth and up and down. Connected it to the post, attached the mailbox and supported it with a dog chain and now my mailbox will swing out of the way if hit and auto-return to the proper position to get mail.
I heard a story about a guy who did somthing similar, only the boom swung all the way around. He hung a bucket of concrete on the end opposite the mailbox. The plow hit the mailbox and the concrete bucket hit the truck and smashed most of the windows.

a buddy of mine and some of his friends was egging cars from behind a retaining wall one time and accidentally egged an undercover cop car. they hightailed it back to his truck before the cop could make it around the wall only to find a cop car waiting for them at the truck (old lady had reported it being suspicous, she didn't like it parked in her neighborhood) that cop didn't know about the eggs but one of the guys aparently had a warrent out for him, so they ran all the way home and came back for the truck later
