Does anyone here use Super Tech (Wal-Mart brand) motor oil? Who makes it? I can see using it in an old beater that uses oil or is very high mileage. Don't know if I would trust using it in a newer vehicle.
super tech is made by a few companies. exxon/mobil and shell and wpp. it is a fine oil and will get your car past the 200k mark. it is api tested and meets all new car specs. so use it if you would like to.
I stated using it about 5 years ago in my "old" 97 Taurus. It had about 60,000 miles at the time and I was planing on unloading it shortly. At over 100,000 miles it still got ST oil and ran great, with no oil use or problems of any kind. I still see the "old" car running around 2 years after I sold it. I bought a 2004 Jeep Liberty a year and a half ago. So far it has 32,000 miles with nothing but ST 5-30 since its first oil change. My son's '97 Nissan gets the same oil (a whoping 3 quarts at a time) and has over 120,000 miles on it now. (18,000 miles since he has had it) If Wal Mart had its shelves stocked with products as good as ST oil is, they would not have a black eye as far as quality is concerned.
Use ST on all four of my vehicles since new to include my new 5.4 F250 (5W30). Have over 160K on a 98 Toyota Corolla. 32K on a 03 Saturn ION and 60K on a 2002 KIA sportage. I do UOA at 30K on all my vehicles and the ST stuff always passes with flying colors. I do 3K-5K OCI. With ST currently over the $1 barrier, I have been recently been going with other name brands with rebates that get me back under $1 per quart I.E. Pennzoil, Chevron and Trop-Artic.

Hootbo
Ditto. I was a ST devotee when it was $0.84/qt. But is is way beyond that now and I can get name brand for $0.59-$0.79/qt., so I go that route now.
I do not see any particular value in ST oil at this time.
I feel that Trop Artic and Chevron Supreme is the top tier dino oil for the price. In fact I just bought a case of Trop Artic 5w30 synthetic blend SM at the Dollar Tree, and a case of Chevron Supreme 5w30 Saturday morning at a busy Costco, while sampling all of those food / cheese / spaghetti freebies Costco is famous for. Then, I bought a cool 1:18 scale metal diecast model of a 1971 Ford Torino GT (red) and a 2005 Hemi Chrysler 300c (black) for $9.99 each. That lead my cart to the CD area, where a fresh "Crosby, Stills & Nash - Greatest Hits" CD was added for $12.99, leaving me to look for the wife's cart amongst the saturday morning Costco shoppers. Too bad Costco doesn't carry oil filters. I'll bet they would sell a ton of them on the weekends. ED
I have been using ST in both of my vehicles since their purchase. 99 mazda b-4000 bought at 45k now has 82k, 98 Jeep Cherokee bought at 43k now has 76k both with changes at 3k. I am satisfied with the ST, and I buy it in 5 quart jugs at local wal-mart for $4.96 two weeks ago.
Below is a link to my wife's UOA for her KIA 2002 KIA Sportage using ST 15W/40 for a 5K OCI. Lab said it only showed normal 3K wear and still had plenty of life left in it.
Approved and certified dino is better today than yesterdays synthetics. The gap between the two is narrowing. Not that synthetics don't have there place, but if you don't need a syn, than you realy don't show any benefit. ST is good oil, I even like there syn blend and strait syn. I also use there filters. I guese I'm sorta brand loyal when it comes to ST. 10 bucks, at wally world, for a strait syn in a 5qt jug is a good deal.
I use ST. 10w-30 in my BII since I got it Never had ant oil related problems with it.It has had some hard wheelin miles on it.
I would run it in my 96 Ranger and Explorer but my local Wal-Mart does not have it in 5w-30.DUMB Wal-Mart!!!!!
I use Motorcraft filters{brand loyal}Wix and NAPA are good to.NEVER use Fram on anything I own.

I have been using SUPERTECH for years. In fact, I used it in my wifes 97 Expedition and it had 170,000 miles on it when we sold it and still ran like brand new. In fact the way it looked and ran is why the car lot gave me so much for it with as many miles that were on it. i still use it in my daughters cars and my wifes car she drives now. I will use it for years to come
