OK went into Wal-Mart for some oil. Tired of changing every 3K miles in my 2005 6.0 diesel, so purchased some 10-40W full synthetic. Realize I should be using 15-40W but will it really make a difference? Any motor issues using synthetic? Thanks in advance for a response.

The truck will be fine on the 10W40. You don't have to change the oil every 3k miles. Ford claims you can go 7500; but most folks are doing it at 5k miles since the oil gets sheared pretty hard...it's trashed before you get to 7500 miles.
Sounds like mobil 1 for gas engines. The correct type of oils for are trucks are diesel specific oils, they encapsulate the soot that diesels make much more of than a gas motor. I would highly recommend using cj4 or ci4 rated oils and not take a chance our 6.0 are really tough on oil, seems I have had better starting and smoother idles since I switched to Rotella t-6 full syn great stuff
Yea diesel only oils and OEM FILTERS can't stress this enough almost didn't catch local shop I had change the oil a few times and always look under hood when ever I get work done and saw new oil filter cap , looked closer and saw carguest in injet on side guickly informed my shop and they just shuruged and said didn't think it mattered.
Oh boy does it matter!!
Wow, sure glad I asked the question. My first diesel and still learning. Thanks all!
I forgot to ask in my first reply if the oil was CJ4 or CI4 rated...good catch there Mark. You most definitely want to make sure it's rated for one of those two. Sorry about that.
