ok this question is probably stupid but i need to know which distributor i need for the duraspark swap on an 84 f-150.... do i need the single or the dual vacuum?
Or you could stick w/ your Points Distributor & purchase the Mallory Coversion Kit (solid state reluctor attaches directly to the inside of the distributor) for it & is about 1/2 the Price of the D.S. II & much more reliable & less prone to Failure (reluctor sits on a plate attached to another plate below it by pins that can schear off rendering it useless).
i am in pa, i have emmisions inspection... its a visual check... my egr, my air pump, and my evap have to all be hooked up... so i take it i want the dual since my emmisions stuff has to stay hooked up
The thing is that they didn't have points distributors in 84. I think he has the same one I took off my 86 block. It had electronic advance and retard.
If you need to pass emissions, a Duraspark II is not stock wether it has the single or dual vacuum. We have no emissions checks in Oregon. But I thought a visual was checking for stock looking parts like Cats, smog pumps, egr and junk like that. I doubt they would know the difference if you get a differend distributor.
As far as Durasparks go, get the Duraspark II not a duraspark I. You can tell the difference because the Points style, and duraspark I have Big Caps. The DSII has a wide flat cap. Far more efficient. Especially performance wise. A hotter spark will add power and mileage while decreasing emissions.
i know for sure i want to go with duraspark II... thats not the debate....the thing i need to know is should i buy the single or dual vacuum advance... i am thinking dual so i can hook it up right for my 84.
