Duraspark II Question

Hey guys, quick question about the years of the Duraspark II. I found a whole setup from an 86 f150 with a 300..it just says "duraspark" but was wondering if this is a duraspark 2? What is the difference anyways?

86 wouldn't be a Duraspark. 86 would be TFI. DS II I believe would be from 77 or 78-82. So if that 86 has a DSII set up someone swapped it in.

If it has the large diameter flat distributor cap it's a Duraspark II. The ignition module will be mounted on the inner fender and will have a blue plastic piece where the wires come out of the ignition module.

A small diameter cap with a gray ignition module mounted on distributor is the TFI.

Just make sure to grab the distributor, coil, ignition module and wiring harness and you are good to go.

Make sure this module is a BLUE-grommet module; other colors represent nonstandard emissions and altitude controls that aren't necessary for what you're doing and can cause issues.

I mentioned it in one of my other replies. It's a plastic block deal where the wires come out of the ignition module. Blue is the most common color. But there are also yellow, brown, white, green, red and black.

Yes.

Certain modules require different voltage at the coil.

if it's not the right box, I have another that I can try. So the BLUE grommet is the one I want eh? I emailed the seller and asked, just waiting for the response. Any particular that blue is the magic color?
