White male 40-45

The Bay Area, CA has lots of jurisdictions. I travel through several of them daily. There are some cowboys on bikes that could probably serve their communities better than popping commuters of a morning, but most are hard working folks. I've noticed over the last couple of years that they spend more time being "domestic counselors" than they should have to. But I'd rate most of the Law Enforcement in the Bay Area a solid B.

Here, in Southern Maryland, the sheriff's deputies (Patrol Division, that is) are more interested in eating doh-nuts and drinking coffee. (Some are too young to drink coffee. They still drink Kool-Aid.)

I know a lot of the older guys on the dept. (Yup... Barney Fife types.)
Newbies on the dept. . . Still wet behind the ears. They couldn't solve a crime if it happened in front of them and they saw the 'bad guys' doin' the deed.

And yes, I'd say that to their faces, too!

How do you know it's 99% white? Is there a poll for that somewhere?

I'm not white. I'm mixed race. 37 years old.

Local police are top notch, but it's a small town. The cops in Yukon down the road are about as crooked as any I've ever met. We had a local scandal where a bunch of them were having sex with some girl at a convenience store (in the aisles) during the night shift. A customer spotted them through the front window and reported it. The girl claimed she was fooling around with the first guy and the other guy's intimidated her into complying (aka rape if it's true). Of course the police union claimed nothing happened, but several of them either quit or got fired over the scandal. It also came out that one of them had a restraining order against him for threatening his girlfriend. Hard to believe that clown carried a badge and gun.

One of the LT's got busted for assaulting some guy after a fender bender shortly after the sex scandal too. I don't mean just an accusal either, the State Police pushed for charges after reviewing video from a nearby factory surveilance camera. It proved he was lying about what happened in the fight.

OKC cops are just as bad, but at least they mostly keep their pants on while they're on duty. Just a gang with badges.

We live in a relatively safe, quiet area, so demand for service is nothing like down the hill. While the San Bernadino County Sheriff is responsible for primary law enforcement, the Highway Patrol substation is much closer and we are at the crossing of two state highways. Except for snow-related problems in the winter, they do not have it too bad.

White,male,40. I live in a small township in OH that never used to have a police dept. We Have good and bad.Been pulled over a couple of times and let go.They will blatantly park across the street from bars and wait for people to leave.Had a friend pulled over and blew way under the legal limit and was still arrested. Had one taking radar parked in my driveway and pulled a gun on me when I asked him to move so I could get in.He said the township owned the first 50 feet of every driveway.County guys aren't too great either. Saw one about 50 feet off the road taking radar and saw him take a big swig of Jack Daniels. I just laughed. Everyone knows what to think of OH staties.

17 white male.

I'm satisified with the police in general, however, in my neighborhood, there is something to be desired. They don't go out of their way to make me dissapointed with them, but they don't act like professional cops.

We have a very low crime rate, but the cops really need to start cracking down on the crackheads hanging in town after dark, and during the day.

We live near Dallas, the state guys are serious but very fair. County sheriffs are EXTREMELY strict around here, most carry 12 gauge shotguns (we still live "out there" I guess) in their cars just in case. Our police department is pretty big now, in the last five years we've gone from 5,000 to almost 30,000.
They are pretty thick around here, 'specially right before and after school. Several very well known areas they practically ALWAYS radar around here. On the other hand, you get back away from the main part of the city and you will never see any of them.
You can get away with lots in town most of the time. I take a backroad to the highway to another highway. Speed limits 40 and 45 on the highways, respectively. At 60 most ignore you.
They started trading in their Crown Vics for Chevy Tahoes (yes the SUVs) and hired many more officers and it's gotten a bit stricter lately, with a couple of complaints against one officer recently. Crime is practically non-existant though, which makes it good.
About a month ago they through a souped up and unmarked 'vette into the mix. Recently clocked by a guy at a gas station doing 160 through town chasing bank robbers from a nearby city. Wish I coulda watched that, but the school was on lockdown *rolls eyes*.
Overall, very satisfied.

White male, 50ish. I voted satisfied, but with a qualifier. State Police are absolute top notch, our local County is right behind them in quality. No comment on the local metro PD.

Want some Canadian input? 30, white mixed. No problems with cops, actually respond quite promptly. Might have something to do with my "homeowner status" rather than renting or living at mom's though. Not too much police scandal around here. So I voted satisfied.

Never knew I could actually like talking to an officer of the law until I met my friend Mike. I was subbing the soffit and fascia on this particular home when the homeowner pulled up in his work vehicle - a Crown Vic highway patrol cruiser. We got to talking about his home, he like my workmanship and asked my opinion or various other aspects of his home regarding quality. Eventually the conversation shifted to subjects - his job, different aspects on the various police cruiser models, trucks,
guns, women, etc. Eventually I came to and remembered I was talking to a guy with
a badge and a gun...lol.

After this I ran into him a few times at our local starbucks. I made aquaintances with a few of his fellow officers and got to know Bill - his leutenant pretty well also. The rest is history - good folks the whole bunch of them. Professional in every manner - they do what they gotta do as officers of the law, but never forget they are people too. . Won't bust your chops over BS either. These are the state police.

Our local PD has a mix - mostly good. I remember pulling over the curbed grass area to park my truck in that same Starbucks parking lot for my morning joe when the entire lot was full. Had nowhere else to park. A local PD cruiser parked next to me as close to the curb as possible but still on the blacktop. My bro thought "Oh boy, your gonna hear it now". Suddenly this friggen hot redhead gets out and says "I wish I could do that, it's like this every morning"....had a beautiful smile. Course part of the reason she may have just let it roll off was seeing how hot I am.

County Sheriff is bad news. FBI has busted two of them here within the last 12 years for laundering, blackmail, and drug dealing. Seems every deputy is indoctrinated to act like Rambo. It's the Sheriff who does all the easy work but seems to get the lion's share ofunds allocation. It's left to local PD to cough up the resources and take the risk necessary to bring down dangerous thugs while the Sheriff sends in a trained 18yo to buy liquer from an unsuspecting sales clerk - single mothers no less. Then the elite team of the Sheriffs Office comes in like SWAT while S.O. helicopters cover the rear exit of the grocery store...lol S.O. is a friggen joke.

The P.D. here is only open from 8am to 8pm. Really. If you call when they're closed, you get an answering machine that says if it's an emergency, to call the sheriff's office. I've met three of the six cops that work here, and they seem to be O.K. The chief's kinda hard-core, but the other two that I met are cute little blondes. Can't say what the crime rate is like, but it's pretty quiet when I'm home. Never really had much of a problem dealing with cops- one uncle retired ATF, now chief investigator for the S.O., another uncle and two cousins are city cops in Tulsa, and a nephew working as a deputy in D.C. There's good and bad in every group that wields any power, be it law enforcement, politics, or selling cars (lol). Oh yeah-WM, 50-ish.

40-45, red blooded all American white male and proud of it, and not satisfied with the police in the city of Spokane WA at all. Reason is very simple. Back in the early 80's the cops here de-emphasized addressing property crimes. People can steal gas from a gas station here and it's ok, so long as a cop doesn't see you flee the scene. They will not provide the station with the name and address of the registered owner of the car. Car stereo got stolen? No biggie, just file a report by phone or come to the station and do that, then tell your insurance company you reported it so they will accept your claim. This cop mentality applies to your home should you be burglarized. They don't send cops out to deal with *minor* things like your home being broken into. That's what your insurance is for. Why would the cops care; after all you get the insurance money and replace the property and you are supposed to be happy. The list goes on and on, but in a nutshell, around this city there are really only two real things that the cops seem to emphasize. Those would be DUI and meth labs. You can drive 10 over the speed limit here at will unless your vehicle is *cute* and attracts cop attention. The exception is a school zone.

Have a problem in the city of Spokane WA and want a cop to show up? You need to know how to ask for one in this neck of the woods. Make sure that in your phone call you use the words "you need to get a cop out here fast or this just might get physical". Always use the word(s) might and never use the word will or is going to get. By using the words I noted, you will probably get a cop within 30 minutes or so.

The cops here are polite and all that, and from what I've seen and heard they don't hassle minorities. However, they need to provide decent and resonable service to the people of the community and not selectivly choose what laws they think are worth bothering with. By ignoring so many basic laws, they have created an environment in which criminals know what they can do, so long as a cop isn't watching. In reality, being a true police officer and not just a law enforcement official would go along ways towards solving things. Like so many people around here, I have no respect whatsoever for they city cops here. County sheriff, well that's a whole different ballgame. Those guys function like a good police agency should .
