I would appreciate very much some information from whomever would like to help me with my project. I have a 1978 Ford F-250 with a block which has already been punched to .030 over. Because the chap that originally bored it for me goofed, I must now consider whether or not to have it bored to .040 over. I have read in several publications, that due to the thin-wall casting; it is recommended that the bore not exceed .030 over. I would like to go to .040 over, and would like to know if this is a mechanically sound thing to do. Any info would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.
Try the 429/460 forum or the engine re-building forum.
I've heard them go .060 over with no real problem.
That would be an awful thin wall though, with possible cooling problems.
Bore away ! Have no fear. I work in an engine shop and we bore the 429/460 blocks .060 ever every week with no problems. We have also assembled some .080 over combinations for truck pull guys, and they haven't come back complaining about any problems......where this 'thin-wall' nonsense ever got started I have no idea.
