D1VE-AA block bore max???

Good day all. I just picked up a D1VE-AA block with the letters E3 and M15 stamped in the lifter valley. I've spent the last few hours reading threads to try and find my answer.

I was told this was an original unmolested block but when I used my cheapy vernier caliper to measure the bore, I did the math wrong and assumed that it was a stock bore (4.36"). When I got home, re measured and re did my math I now have a bore that is 4.39" which I believe is .030 over? The caliper read 4" and .63-16ths, for any of your math whizzes. I'm pretty sure I take the .63, and convert it to 6.3 and divide by 16ths to get the inches. 6.4/16 = 0.394" plus 4" = 4.394" bore size.

The cylinders are not in great shape and will likely need to be over bored to bring them back. I'm seeing older information that sais I can only go to .030" and that's it. Then other threads are stating .080" over!?!

HELP!!! I'm very concerned that I just bought a $300 boat anchor. This purchase also came with a 429 crank (stamped 4U I think???) and 429 rods and pistons and original D0VE-C heads. I was hoping to make this a mild big block for my Model A. Any help would be appreciated to clear up this confusion.

Thanx!!!

Travis.

Depending on how much HP you're aiming for a partial block fill may help stabilize the bores and keep 'em round.

Hey Krooser, Thanx for the reply. An update is in order.

I borrowed a good quality inside micrometer, and it turns out the bore is 4.361". So stock! I'm very excited. Now to do some research to find out if I should be looking at making this a 4 bolt main or is a 2 bolt good enough. I read hear that a 2 bolt is plenty good enough up to 900hp? This block will definitely need a cylinder bore and line bore. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Travis
