Tore down my 351m to find cylinders already bored 030, and in sorry shape. I need an 040 over block. My question is this. Everything I have, cylinder heads, intake, headers, distributer, pistons, crank, gasket sets, galley pan, lifters, rods..... Everything, was for a 351m: can I purchase a 351c and keep all my parts, or will some parts not work?
Heads will work, intake would have to be shaved, headers would fit heads but might not fit vehicle, dist will work, pistons I think would have to have pin bore resized but not sure, crank I dont think will work, lifters I think will work, rods are totally different. But the main thing is a 351c wont bolt up to a 351m tranny.
Will your block clean up at .040" overbore? May be the best option. Or look for a new block. 351m and 400 blocks are the same. If you score a decent 400 with crank, all your heads, mounts ect. will work and you will have a 400 (need 400 pistons though).
picked up a new block, but now that creates more questions. I bought a standard bore D7TE-A-2-B, the old block was D7TE-A3B. I know enough to know these are both M truck blocks, but will my accessories, motor mounts, bell housing, pulley brackets etc.....is it all going to transfer over okay?
I don't know part numbers, but if they're both 351/400M blocks, they'll have the same bell housing and motor mount attaching points. It's possible there could be other differences, but those aspects will be the same.
Accessory brackets typically attach to the timing cover/water pump/heads rather than the block itself, but I don't know why that would be any different - look and see.
